Sons of Maryhurst

We hailed from every distance

and varied beginnings.

Some were privileged,

some short with what life brings.

Perhaps one or more were confused

or driven by a quest,

but most, if not all

shared a unique recurrent thirst.

Our blood was young and

did our wisdom spell,

yet each heard a voice far persistent

than their first natal yell.

Hence, we said “YES”

and marched on that path

which to date stays cherished

in mind and heart.

There were minstrels, artists,

thespians, poets and thinkers.

There were clowns, athletes,

brains and leaders.

And if they were not born

or yet known to be so blest,

their grooming commenced

at the welcoming doors of Maryhurst.

Our majestic home was indeed

where “pine trees grow.”

Together, we worshipped and dined

and took each other bro.

True of a real family

we had squabbling, temper and pride

which only made our journey

such a memorable ride.

As is written, few are chosen

from the many who were called.

we parted ways and set sail

to love, ambition and gold.

A thousand seasons

have come and gone

the matrix of one heart one soul

preserves our bond.

Our blood is now old and

so our wisdom may tell,

we still hear that voice

like the summons of a great bell.

We may never touch her walls again

but none shall ever forget

For then, now and on

we remain proud sons of Maryhurst!

Maryhurst Seminary

This was the Maryhurst we have known it to be before it was totally gutted by a wild, forest fire several years back. It used to be our haven and a home for four years sojourn in the City of Pines and the summer capital of the Philippines - Baguio City. Mayhurst, aptly translated as Mary's nest was a proverbial nest for our formation. It will always be a part of our lives.
